2/1/08 Serato releases Video-SL
After
showing off various beta versions for the past 10 months, Serato
finally released their Video-SL plug-in at the NAMM show on 1/17.
You'll need a computer with at least 2 GB of RAM and a decent graphics
card. Initial support is limited to the Rane TTM 57SL mixer, but Serato
announced that they plan on supporting other models of hardware in the
future. Video-SL is sold as a separate plug-in that sells for US$199.
Warik from Serato was kind enough to give us a demo:
1/17/08 SVM-1000 tutorials
We
here at DVJ Vision had a chance to spend a good chunk of time with
Pioneer's SVM-1000, and the thing is an incredible machine: 14 video
inputs, manipulating audio and video at the same time, applying video
effects to JPEG's and live camera feeds, it's all a bit hard to
describe, so here are two video tutorials, that should give you a
better idea:

10/4/07 - Pioneer releases AV mixer
After
months of speculation, Pioneer today released pictures and specs of
their much aniticipated AV-mixer, the SVM-1000. A 4-channel mixer, with
the same audio quality as the DJM-800 (96 kHz/ 24 bit with a 32 bit
DSP), it also has 4 video inputs and enables the DJ to synchronize all
4 audio/video sources simultaneously.
Within
the SVM-1000’s 11-inch LCD touch panel is an AV Effect section, which
enables the synchronisation of audio effects and video effects. This
function is capable of 30 patterns of effects on the audio and/or
visual side, meaning that you can create countless combinations of
effects. Each effect can be selected via an animated icon button for an
easier (visual) understanding of the effect, thereby allowing DJs to
instantly select the best effect for their performance.
1.
AV Beat Effect: Automatically detects the BPM of the music and affects
both audio and video in time with the beat. There are 12 patterns of
Beat Effects: DELAY, ECHO, PAN, TRANS, FILTER, FLANGER, PHASER, REVERB,
ROBOT, CHORUS, ROLL and REV ROLL, which can also be combined with other
visual effects such as Inverse, Edge and Hue for numerous arrangements.
2. AV Touch Effect: Enables a more
sensuous use of effects because it allows users to touch and affect the
visuals directly, as they appear on the panel. The mixer is loaded with
12 patterns of Touch Effects: RIPPLE, LENS, SPOT, RADIATION, CUBE,
BLOCK, KALEIDO, TWIST, ZOOM, DROP, BLUR and DISTORTION.
3.
Text Effects: Automatically detects the tempo of the track and displays
text messages in sync with the beat. The SVM-1000 is equipped with 6
patterns of Text Effects: RANDOM, ZOOM, BLOCK, ROTATION, CRUSH and
SLIDE. Messages are inputted via the touch screen’s built-in keyboard,
but it is also possible to use an external USB keyboard.
JPEG Viewer Function
The SVM-1000 lets users incorporate their own
images and photos from an external memory device for use in
their performance through a SD slot and USB
connection. Its “Still Image Sampler”
further enhances visuals by mixing images, such
as logos of DJs, events or sponsors with videos or other
still images with the ability to loop and play them as a slide show.
With
a suggested retail price of $5,999 (and the release scheduled for
February of 2008), this mixer will not be found in many DJ's bedrooms
any time soon. Rather, it'll be the top clubs and live venues that will
invest in this technology. But we think it is clear for all of us in
the A/V world, that this is a leap forward. Most of us have been
getting by, by controlling an Edirol V4 via the MIDI out on our
audio-mixer or controlling a Pioneer VSW-1 via fader-start. These are
solutions, but at the end of the day you are always compromising. It is
very difficult for one person, to do a proper A/V set with a set-up
like that, that why all the major A/V acts are duos or trios (Sander
& Anyone, Sandra & Vello, Addictive TV, Eclectic Method,...).
The SVM will change that, and in a few years, when we look back, we
will remember it as the device that completed the A/V revolution.
To
get your hands on one, come to the US premier of the SVM-1000 at Pacha
in NYC on Wednesday Nov. 7th. Artists scheduled to perform are BT,
Sandra Collins & Vello Virkhaus, Tommy Lee and Roonie G.
